MSc in Rural Development and Nutrition Scholarship in Belgium

Programme content: Ghent University is offering a two-year Master of Science programme in Rural Development and Nutrition for the first time in 2007-2008. The main subject Human Nutrition is an extended programme based on the former one-year programme ICP Food Science and Nutrition. The theme of the programme remains the same: ‘The multidisciplinary approach of the nutrition problems in the development’.

The course provides an outline of all theoretical information and practical experience, directly and indirectly related to a better understanding of nutrition problems in the developing countries, their origin and solutions. The programme includes lectures, research projects, case studies, discussions, seminars, demonstrations, lab work, exercises and visits.

Admission requirements: Participants should hold a university degree (min. B.Sc.) in
a discipline related to the content of the course (nutrition, agriculture, medical sciences, chemistry, etc) from a recognised university, college or institute. It is highly recommended that the participants have a few years’ practical experience in a developing country before they attend the course. If English is not their mother tongue or the language of their university studies, they should hold a TOEFL or IELTS certificate or pass an entrance exam.

Scholarship Coverage:

Monthly allowance of €919 (to cover room and board, individual transport and personal expenses);

Monthly allowance of €57 for the spouse/ official partner and per dependent child (whether they stay in Belgium or not)

Fee for educational materials: €275 (per academic year)

Settlement expenses: €500 (non-recurrent payment)

Fee covering postage costs of educational materials: €275 (non-recurrent payment)

One economy class return airline ticket (per academic year – arrangements for initial international travel to Belgium will be handled by VLIR; all other travel arrangements will be made by the host university)

Insurance (the host university provides medical, third party liability, accident, travel and repatriation insurance)

Annual tuition fees(the host university will cover the annual tuition fee,
up to €80)
