MSc in Aquaculture Scholarship in Belgium

Programme content: This programme provides courses at university level on the most important aspects of aquaculture, for both marine and freshwater organisms. The programme takes a multidisciplinary, interuniversity approach. The programme runs in parallel with the European Master of Science in Aquaculture and Fisheries organised by seven European universities (www.MAqFish.com). The study programme comprises a first year of complementary studies and a second year of advanced studies: General Aspects of Aquaculture; Marine and Freshwater Ecology; Larval Food Production & Larviculture; Algae/Fish/Shellfish Culture; Environmental Impact; Fish Breeding; Genetics & Nutrition; Health and Disease Control; Fish Farming Systems; Tropical Aquaculture; Farm Management; Management in the Aquaculture Industry; etc. The programme is concluded with the preparation of a thesis (30 ECTS) prepared at one of the MaqFish participating institutions or farms.

Admission requirements:

The programme is open to holders of a bachelor’s degree in exact or applied sciences, equivalent to at least three years’ university studies or a degree in Veterinary Medicine, Civil Engineering or Agricultural Engineering or any related area. Holders of other degrees must follow extra courses. Every application will be carefully examined individually. Some background in aquaculture is recommended.

Type of diploma: Master ’s degree.

Scholarship Coverage:

Monthly allowance of €919 (to cover room and board, individual transport and personal expenses);

Monthly allowance of €57 for the spouse/ official partner and per dependent child (whether they stay in Belgium or not)

Fee for educational materials: €275 (per academic year)

Settlement expenses: €500 (non-recurrent payment)

Fee covering postage costs of educational materials: €275 (non-recurrent payment)

One economy class return airline ticket (per academic year – arrangements for initial international travel to Belgium will be handled by VLIR; all other travel arrangements will be made by the host university)

Insurance (the host university provides medical, third party liability, accident, travel and repatriation insurance)

Annual tuition fees(the host university will cover the annual tuition fee,
up to €80)
