The Courant Research Centre “Poverty, Equity and Growth in Developing and Transition Countries: Statistical Methods and Empirical Analyses” at the University of Göttingen invites applications for a PhD position in (Applied) Statistics. The position is available October 1, 2008, fixed for 3 years and has no teaching duties. Knowledge of German is helpful, but not required.
The Courant Research Centre combines a unique and recently established pool of researchers from the Faculties of Economics, Agriculture and Mathematics. The interdisciplinary character of research provides a stimulating and inspiring environment. A statistical or empirical PhD project can also be conducted within the PhD Certificate Programme of the Centre for Statistics (http://www.zfs.uni-goettingen.de/index.php?id=4 ).
The candidates are expected to have a qualified degree in Statistics, Mathematics or related fields. Graduates in Economics with a strong quantitative methodological background are also encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have interests in nonparametric regression and a good knowledge of statistical software.
