For the academic year 2008/09, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in collaboration with the University of Tunis and the italo-indian Chambers of Commerce is offering the first 2-year edition of the International Master’s program in Communication Networks Engineering (IMCNE), starting on Nevember 5th, 2008. The Master is patroned by the Ministry of Research and Foreign Affairs, together with sponsor companies. The Master is structured in traditional front lectures and in laboratory sessions and the program is divided in 4 semesters. The applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications.
The Master program is focused on the provisioning of competence across Telecommunications Engineering and Computer Science, taking into account tecno-economic aspects and services supported by the networks. In the first semester the students will build solid grounds in basic disciplines of information engineering. In the second and third semester they will acquire strong competence in the area of: software for telecommunication, design of wired and wireless networks, network architectures and tecno-economic aspects, network components. In the last semester, they will develop and original Master thesis in Scuola Sant’Anna Laboratories or in one of the sponsor companies. At the end of the Master program they will be able to design, plan and manage complex telecommunication infrastructures with heterogeneous network segments both from the hardware and software point of view.
The Master Director is Prof. Giancarlo Prati, Director of the Center of Excellence for Communication and Information Engineering (CEIIC) and President of Inter-universitary National Consortium fo Telecommunications (CNIT).
The Scientific Responsible is Prof. Piero Castoldi, Associate Professor at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna and Director of CNIT National Laboratory for Photonic Networks in Pisa.

WHO CAN APPLY
Applicants must have a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications or any other equivalent title in the disciplines relating to the Information and Communication Technologies.
A waiver exist only for those students who are enrolled in a University that adheres to ECTS (European Credit Transfer System): applicants with at least 160 ECTS are also eligible, provided that they must get their degree (i.e. reaching180 ECTS) within the first semester of attendance of the Master IMCNE.

The selection will be carried out by a committee that will select candidates by rating them using a scale with a maximum score of 100 points, divided as follows:

Professional experience (only if pertinent to the Master Programme) – max 5 points;
Knowledge of English and other foreign languages - max 10 points;
Motivation letter and reference letters - max 10 points;
Publications (only if pertinents to the Master Programme) - max 5 points.
The selection committee might invite selected candidates for an interview (in person or via conference call) to clarify aspects of the Curriculum Vitae.
At the end of the selection procedure, the committee will post the final ranking list on this web site, and will proceed to contact via e-mail the resulting top 30 candidates.
