"GK-12" Graduate Fellowships Available in Aquatic Science at Washington State University Vancouver
The Aquatic Ecology Laboratory at Washington State University Vancouver, directed by Dr. Stephen Bollens and Dr. Gretchen Rollwagen-Bollens, has paid assistantships available for new graduate students to contribute to a growing and dynamic program in environmental sciences.
***Beginning in Fall 2008 WSUV will also offer GK-12 Graduate Teaching Fellowships to graduate students enrolled in the Environmental Science graduate program. GK-12 Fellows serve as graduate teaching assistants in a middle- school science classroom for an entire academic year and stipends are very competitive ($30,000/year). All teaching/research assistantships include tuition waivers as part of their stipends.
Research Areas: Current and future research projects span a wide range of taxa, from plankton (both protozoan and metazoan) to fish, in habitats ranging from lakes to estuaries to the coastal ocean. Projects address both basic and applied questions (e.g. invasion biology, restoration ecology, fisheries biology) and span several sub-disciplines, including behavior, population biology, community ecology and ecosystem dynamics.
WSU Vancouver is located in Washington State across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon, and is close to the Cascades, Puget Sound, and the Pacific ocean, and thus offers significant opportunities for research, a variety of neighboring institutions and agencies for collaboration, and an excellent quality of life. Degree programs are offered across all WSU campuses and students in Vancouver may participate in activities in Pullman.
Priority applications are due January 10, 2008. Applications received after January 10 will be considered on a rolling basis.
