Job description
You will be working on the project “Monetary and non-monetary quantification of the environmental health impacts of traffic”. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with Centre for Environmental Health Research (MGO) of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), Bilthoven, the Netherlands. You will be stationed at RIVM.
You will perform a literature review on the current approaches and strength and weaknesses of monetisation of health effects of environmental contaminants. You will compare these with approaches in environmental burden-of-disease estimates. You will design, execute, analyse and report on an empirical study into severity weighing of environment-related health effects and their monetary valuation in a multi-country setting. You will perform a case study on transport and health to jointly estimate monetary and non-monetary societal costs of environmental health effects, based on the empirical results and results from the literature review. You will work in a multi-disciplinary and international team and will present your findings at national and international meetings and conferences. You will publish the results in peer-reviewed scientific journals and your PhD thesis. You will supervise MSc students during their internships and follow training courses relevant for your research.
Qualifications
An enthusiastic candidate with a MSc degree in the field of life sciences or biology, with a strong interest in health impact assessment. You have good organisational, communication and writing skills, especially in Dutch and English. You are also a team player and self-motivating. Experience with (environmental) epidemiology public health or health economics will be your advantage.
Terms of employment
We offer a temporary full time appointment of one year with the perspective of prolongation with another 3 years. The gross salary starts with € 1,956.- per month in the first year and increases to € 2,502.- per month in the fourth year of employment (salary scale “P” Collective Employment Agreement of the Dutch Universities).
Secondary benefits, based on the Collective Employment Agreement of the Dutch Universities are excellent in general and include e.g. a pension scheme, flexible employment conditions and salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 3% per year.
