The Institut des sciences de la mer de Rimouski (ISMER) of the Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR) announces the availability of two scholarships for graduate studies at the MSc and PhD levels. The successful MSc applicant will work on photooxidation of dimethyl sulfide (DMS) and geochemical cycling of carbonyl sulfide (COS) in Canadian Arctic seas, as part of the newly funded Canadian Arctic SOLAS program. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field. Dr. Michael Scarratt (co-supervisor) of the Maurice-Lamontagne Institute and Dr. Maurice Levasseur of Laval University will collaborate on this project. The PhD project will focus on the impact of dissolved organic matter photochemistry on the carbon and nutrient cycling in northern marine ecosystems.
This position requires a master’s degree in chemistry, biology or a related field. Experience in marine sciences is an asset but not essential. Dr. Paul del Giorgio (co-supervisor) of University of Quebec at Montreal will collaborate on this project. Both the MSc and PhD projects will require fieldwork on a research vessel. Preference will be given to candidates who are fluent in both English and French. For detailed information, please contact Dr. Huixiang Xie, email: huixiang_xie@uqar.qc.ca.
