Graduate Student in Aquatic Community Ecology/Limnology

PhD position in Limnology/Aquatic Community Ecology

Department of Ecology and Evolution/Limnology
Uppsala University, Sweden

Project description:
The aim of the PhD project is to examine the role of fish for coupling food web dynamics across habitats. The research will focus on how two environmental disturbances, eutrophication and increased water colour, may affect aquatic community interactions. An increase in water colour in lakes is expected under warmer and wetter conditions due to an increased run-off. This together with eutrophication is expected to change the productivity in benthic and pelagic habitats. This project will test how the effect of these environmental disturbances can propagate across habitats through the whole aquatic food web by focussing on fish foraging in different habitats. The project will improve our understanding on how environmental disturbances and climate change affect lake ecosystems and will also be useful for management of lakes. The applicant should be familiar with general theory and models of population and community ecology.

The position offered is a 4-year fulltime position and the successful applicant should have an academic degree in biology, environmental science, or other relevant field. Applicants with previous experience in ecology/limnology with a focus on population and community ecological modeling are particularly encouraged to apply.
